Celebrating Women’s Day with Empowerment: The ZEFA Foundation’s Initiative for Skill, Strength, and Solidarity

On March 4, 2025, in the vibrant community of Malende village, Cameroon, the Zotah Elizabeth Fossungu Association (ZEFA Foundation) marked International Women’s Day in a truly impactful way. Seventy women from the Ngomba Women Association and beyond came together in the Ngomba quarter to celebrate their strength, resilience, and potential. This initiative, designed to honor the spirit of Women’s Day, was more than just a celebration, it was a transformative program aimed at equipping women with the tools to thrive economically, socially, and personally. In alignment with the 2025 International Women’s Day theme of inclusivity and economic empowerment, the ZEFA Foundation implemented a comprehensive training program focused on two key areas:

1. Quality Puff-Puff and Bean Production: Women were trained in the art of producing these local staples, gaining valuable skills to start or expand their own businesses.

2. Sensitization Sessions: The program also addressed critical issues affecting women, including:
Gender-Based Violence (GBV)Raising awareness and fostering dialogue to combat violence and promote safety. Educating women on recent government policies affecting traditional marriage practices.

Girl Child EmpowermentHighlighting the importance of education and opportunities for young girls.

Women’s Role in Economic Development.

Encouraging active participation in local and national economies.

By combining practical skills with essential knowledge, the initiative ensured that women left not only with the ability to generate income but also with the confidence to advocate for themselves and their communities.

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on the progress made toward gender equality and to recommit to the work that remains. In many communities, women face systemic barriers to education, employment, and leadership. Programs like this one by the ZEFA Foundation are crucial in breaking down these barriers and creating opportunities for women to thrive.

When women are empowered, the benefits extend far beyond the individual. They invest in their families, support local economies, and challenge harmful societal norms. By focusing on entrepreneurship and education, this initiative is not just changing lives, it’s building a more equitable and sustainable future for entire communities.

This Women’s Day initiative was a collaborative effort, bringing together passionate individuals and organizations dedicated to women’s empowerment:
The Zotah Elizabeth Fossungu Association (ZEFA Foundation) provided the resources and vision to make this program a reality.
Beneficiaries: The Ngomba Women Association and other women from the community, whose enthusiasm and determination were the driving force behind the program’s success.
Stakeholders: Key figures such as the Divisional Officer of Muyuka, the Mayor of Muyuka, the Sub-Delegate of Women Empowerment and the Family, the Chair of the Malende Traditional Council, and the President of Youths in Malende lent their support and expertise, ensuring the program’s relevance and impact.

A Day of Celebration and Growth
March 4, 2025, was a day filled with energy, learning, and hope. Women of all ages came together to celebrate their achievements and chart a path toward a brighter future. The training sessions were interactive and hands-on, allowing participants to master the art of puff-puff and bean production while discussing ways to market their products and generate income. The sensitization sessions sparked meaningful conversations, breaking down barriers and fostering a sense of solidarity among the women.

The Road Ahead

While this Women’s Day initiative marked a significant milestone, it is just the beginning of a longer journey. The skills and knowledge gained by these women will serve as a foundation for future growth, both individually and collectively. As they apply what they’ve learned, they will not only improve their own lives but also inspire others in their community to pursue empowerment and change.

This initiative is a powerful reminder that when we invest in women, we invest in the future. By equipping women with the tools to thrive, we are building a world where everyone has the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from sustainable development.

A Call to Action.
As we celebrate the success of this Women’s Day program, let us also recognize the work that remains. Empowering women is not a one-time effort—it requires ongoing commitment, collaboration, and support. Whether through education, entrepreneurship, or advocacy, each of us has a role to play in creating a more inclusive and equitable world.

To the women of Malende village, your strength and resilience are an inspiration. To the ZEFA Foundation and all stakeholders, your dedication is a beacon of hope. Together, we are proving that when women rise, communities thrive.

Here’s to a future where every woman has the opportunity to shine, lead, and transform the world around her.
