School Fees Assistance to Children at Government School (G.S) Nwangong, Government School (G.S) Nzentche, and Government Bilingual Secondary School (G.B.S.S) Emolah-Nwangong and the Distribution of In-Kind Incentives to the Parents of Benefiting Children in Alou subdivision, Lebialem Division Southwest Region.
Background
Access to education remains a major challenge for many children in rural communities across the Alou Subdivision of the Lebialem Division, Southwest Region of Cameroon. Due to financial hardship, many parents and guardians struggle to pay examination registration fees, placing their children’s academic future at risk. For many learners, failure to register for national examinations such as the First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) and the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level can delay or even prevent their educational progression.
As part of the official launch of the ZEF Foundation, the organization chose to commemorate this important milestone through a meaningful act of community service by supporting vulnerable learners to access education. Rather than limiting the launch to a ceremonial event, the Foundation demonstrated its commitment to improving educational opportunities by providing financial assistance to pupils and students in need.
Objective Of the Activity
The overall objective of the initiative was to promote access to quality education by reducing the financial barriers that prevent vulnerable children from registering for national examinations.
Target groups and attendance Target Groups:
The School Fees Assistance Initiative primarily targeted vulnerable pupils and students from Government School (G.S.) Nwangong, Government School (G.S.) Nzentche, and Government Bilingual Secondary School (G.B.S.S.) Emolah-Nwangong in the Alou Subdivision, Lebialem Division, Southwest Region of Cameroon. The beneficiaries were learners from low-income families who were at risk of missing their national examinations due to an inability to pay registration fees and in this regard, their parents received food items from the organization
Results or outcomes
- A total of 255,000 FCFA was disbursed to support eligible pupils with the registration fees for the 2023/2024 First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC)
- An additional 80,000 FCFA was provided to register four students for the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level
- 100% of the beneficiaries who received financial support were successfully registered for their respective national examinations, eliminating financial barriers that could have prevented them from sitting for the exams.
- The intervention reduced financial and food burden on vulnerable families and ensured that deserving learners continued their educational journey without interruption.
- The initiative increased hope and motivation among the beneficiaries, encouraging them to prepare confidently for their examinations and pursue their academic goals.
- The activity strengthened community trust and confidence in the ZEF Foundation by demonstrating its commitment to supporting vulnerable children through practical, community-centered interventions.
- The successful implementation of this initiative marked a strong beginning for the Foundation, reinforcing its mission to promote education, empower vulnerable populations, and contribute to sustainable community development.

By providing financial support for the registration of vulnerable pupils and students for the 2023/2024 FSLC and GCE Ordinary Level examinations and food items to some vulnerable families the Foundation helped remove a significant barrier to education and ensured that deserving learners had the opportunity to continue their academic journey.
