Background

Youth unemployment and underemployment remain significant challenges, with many young people possessing academic qualifications but lacking the practical and interpersonal skills required to succeed in today’s competitive job market. Employers increasingly value soft skills such as effective communication, confidence in public speaking, professional networking, and the ability to learn from experienced mentors. Unfortunately, many young people have limited opportunities to develop these essential competencies.

Objective Of the Activity

The overall objective of the seminar was to equip young people with essential professional and interpersonal skills that would enhance their employability, leadership potential, and personal development.

Target groups and attendance Target Groups:

Youth aged 18-35 years. Total participants 30

Results or outcomes

  • 100% (30 out of 30) of participants gained knowledge on effective public speaking techniques and the importance of clear and confident communication in professional settings.
  • 90% (27 out of 30) of participants reported increased confidence in speaking before an audience and expressed readiness to apply the skills during interviews, presentations, and public engagements.
  • 93% (28 out of 30) of participants demonstrated a better understanding of the role of mentorship in personal and career development and committed to seeking mentors within their areas of interest.
  • 87% (26 out of 30) of participants improved their understanding of professional networking and identified practical ways to build and maintain valuable professional relationships.
  • 90% (27 out of 30) of participants indicated that the seminar had enhanced their preparedness for employment and motivated them to continue developing their professional and leadership skills.

Conclusion

The Youth Professional Development Seminar was a successful initiative that equipped 30 young people with practical skills essential for personal and professional success. Through interactive sessions on public speaking, mentorship, and professional networking, participants gained valuable knowledge and increased confidence to communicate effectively, build meaningful relationships, and make informed career decisions. The seminar reinforced the importance of continuous learning, self-development, and seeking guidance from experienced mentors as pathways to achieving personal and professional goals.
